SRT-4 and PT Cruiser Turbo O2 Housings

What is an O2 housing??  The O2 housing is connected to the exhaust manifold, and directs exhaust flow from the manifold to the exhaust system.  In the picture below the O2 housing is BLUE

The stock O2 housing is restrictive and necks down to 2 inches on the exit end.  MAXX Fab O2 housings remove the restriction, and are 3 inch diamter from inlet to outlet.  Below is a picture with the restrictive O2 housing on the left, and the larger MAXX Fab O2 housing on the right:

 

STOCK TURBO O2 HOUSINGS

All MAXX Fabrication housings are made of 304 stainless steel and have a MAXX Fab exclusive load bearing bracket installed on other aftermarket housings.  Without this mount, the movement of the down pipe, cat and exhaust is transferred to the four housing to manifold exhaust bolts and O2 housing welds. If other after market housings without this load bearing bracket are used, failure of the fasteners and/or welds will result. There has been failures of other aftermarket housings, one of which burned the owners oil unit sending wires.  He was lucky.....it could have been worse.  See the picture at the bottom of the page to see what can happen when an O2 housing of inferior design and build quality is used.

In the stock configuration, a black "Y" bracket is used to transfer the movement of the cat/down pipe and fwd part of the exhaust to two points on the engine block.  The above picture shows how the "Y" bracket is reinstalled and mounted to a MAXX Fabrication O2 housing.  Also notice that the "Y" bracket mount on the MAXX Fab housing is welded to the 3/8 inch thick O2 housing to downpipe FLANGE, not the thinner tubing.  This allows transfer of exhaust system movement to bypass the tubing and go straight from the flange to the engine block.  Other manufacturers weld a standoff to the tubing allowing the stresses of exhaust system movement to go through the  tubing.  This is not the best design for durabilty.

Installation instructions, 3" gasket, and mounting hardware are included.   The heat shields do not need to be removed or modified to install Maxx Fabrication O2 housing.

Stage 3 O2 Housings

These housings have the same features as the OEM replacement housings decribed above, but have the pentastar shaped Stage 3 flange needed for installation to the Stage 3 exhaust manifold.

The inlet to the O2 housing has been expanded to  approx 3.75 inches in diameter to take full advantage of the exhaust opening in the Stage 3 exhaust manifold.  The exit end of the O2 housing is 3 inch in diameter.  This allows any aftermarket exhaust to bolt right up the the MAXX Fab Satge 3  O2 housing.
